Ellen Fredonia Reeves Pentland (b. 1872 – d. 1968) was born in Kansas and was the daughter of Captain Harrison H. Reeves (b. 1835 – d. 1892) and Marina May Fellows (b. 1837 – d. 1925 or 1924). Captain Harrison was born in North Bend, Ohio and died November 21, 1892 in Gila Bend, Arizona. He and Marina married about 1856. They had five daughters.
In 1876, Harrison and Marina Reeves’ wagon and six others set out from Kansas on the arduous two-month journey to Prescott, Arizona Territory. Along the way, four wagons turned back. The Reeves, two other wagons and two riders pressed ahead on the Santa Fe Trail and then on the Beale Wagon Road to Peach Springs, Arizona where they rested a while, then on into Prescott, Arizona and waiting friends. The Reeves’ wagon held their possessions and five daughters, from 18 years down to their 3 year old, which was Ellen. The Reeves family established and owned a successful cattle ranch at Camp Wood, north of Prescott, for several years.
Ellen, the youngest daughter, married Edward Boyd Pentland (b. 1871 – d. 1950) on June 3, 1893 in Prescott. The 1920 census lists Edward’s age as 49 and his occupation as miner, metal mine, and their son, Edward G.’s age as 25 and his occupation as engineer, metal mine. Their children were: Gertrude Joy Pentland (b. 1909 – d. 1997), Edward Gale Pentland (b. 1894 – d. 1979) and Russell Boyd Pentland (b. 1897 – 1988).
