Description

Postcard view of the Officers Quarters at Fort Des Moines, Iowa, where Prescott native Martha Rebecca Yount (b. 1912 - d. 2001) attended four weeks of basic training in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC), beginning in December 1942 during the Second World War. During her training, she was selected for eight weeks of Officer Candidate School and graduated as a Third Officer (equivalent to a Second Lieutenant). Martha met Millard "Skinny" Caldwell during the war and they married in 1946 after she retired from the army with the rank of captain.
