Crown King mining equipment remnants, Pine Grove District, Bradshaw Mountains, Yavapai County, Arizona.
A 1996 slide picture showing the remnants of wooden beams found at the site of the former Crown King Mine. These beams could have been used to either support the inside structure of the mine and/or as supports that held the mine's arrastra (or arastra). An arrastra was a primitive mill used to grind and pulverize gold or silver ore for further processing (usually) at a distant milling facility. In its simplest form, it consisted of two or more flat-bottomed drag stones placed in a circular pit paved with flat stones, and connected to a center post by a long arm. It was pulled in a circular direction by either men, mules and possibly engine-powered.
