Description

Bird's-eye view of mine buildings at Senator Mining District, Prescott, in the Bradshaw Mining District in Yavapai County, Arizona. The Senator was a gold mine located about 10 miles south of Prescott, Arizona at an elevation of 6,749 feet, on the north side of Mount Union. It was situated near the headwaters of the Hassayampa River, and was one of many mines in the area located on the Hassayampa River as it flowed toward the town of Wickenburg. It was best known as a gold property, but its primary production was lead and zinc, with lesser amounts of silver and copper. The Senator Mine was discovered in the 1860s and was one of the longest successful mining operations even though Apache Indian attacks halted work there from time to time. The rights to the mine has been held by the Phelps Dodge Corporation since 1889.
