Photo of a family picnic at Montezuma Well, located near Montezuma Castle.
The Apache woman known as Lulu Verde, who had been captured by the U.S. Army during the 1870s and had married an Anglo American in the 1880s, lived at Montezuma Well at two different times. She resided there as a child under the care of homesteaders Sarah and Wales Arnold, who established a home at Beaver Creek. The second time was with her husband, Link McKesson. According to the Arizona Miner, Link attempted to dam Montezuma Well in the early 1890s to create a fish farm before moving his family to Kingman, Arizona in 1892.
