Photo of an Apache girl believed to have been named "Apache May" and adopted by John Slaughter, a prominent Tombstone, Arizona sheriff. Her true identity was the subject of speculation of many newspapers and publications. She, like the Apache girl Lulu Verde, was adopted by Anglo Americans away from her Native American roots.
