Description

Portrait of women's rights reformer May Wright Sewall (b. 1844 - d. 1920).

In March 1895 May joined her husband, Theodore Sewall in Phoenix and moved to Prescott in April seeking relief for his tuberculosis. As a reformer, she was a leader in numerous national and international women's organizations. In August 1895 Sewall met with several Prescott women and organized the Women's Club of Prescott. The next year, the organization's name was changed to the Monday Club, a well-known group in Prescott. The Sewalls moved to Indiana where Theodore passed away in December 1895. May continued her work for women's rights and reform until her death in 1890.
