Boggs Mine, above Mayer and Big Bug Creek, Yavapai County, Arizona Territory. Theodore W. Boggs was one of the principal mining developers in the area around Mayer after arriving in the Arizona territory in the mid-1860s. He went on to own many mines, a mill and a smelter. Theodore Boggs was a cousin of Kit Carson and the great-grandson of Daniel Boone. He survived an encounter with a grizzly bear, earlier in his life, that marred one side of his face. He was successful in most of his mining ventures, only 20 years later, he sold some of his properties which would amount to millions of dollars today. Mr. Boggs died June 7, 1905 from injuries incurred after a runaway accident when he was thrown from his buggy and landed in a pile of rocks while driving a team from his smelter.
