Description

Swansea Mill, ca. 1910's.

Swansea was located east of Kingman, Arizona, in the Buckskin Mountains. It was originally financed and founded by European investors; according to the Kingman Daily Miner, September 6, 1981, “The town was built by Belgian and French Francs.”

The property was owned by various mining interests during its active years, including the Clara Consolidated Gold and Copper Company, and the Arizona Smelting and Refining Company of Humboldt. During its booming years, Swansea had restaurants, banks, a new and used car dealership and even a local newspaper, the Swansea Times.

Swansea and mining finally played out, although many of the residential and commercial buildings lasted through the 1980’s. In summary, between 1908 and 1930, the Swansea was reported to have produced some 27 million pounds of copper.
