An advertisement in the Arizona Republican newspaper for sports columnist Sally Jacobs.

Between 1912 and 1922 Jacobs wrote articles on college football, boxing, race car driving, and baseball. She was one of only a small number of women in the United States during the 1910s who covered sports for newspapers because many men assumed that women could not understand athletics. Jacobs also interviewed famous sports figures like auto racer Barney Oldfield (winner of the 1914 Cactus Derby) and heavyweight champion Jess Willard.
