Description

Mule Teams at Silver King Mine. Mining companies valued mules, using them for carrying their heavy provisions and equipment, restocking supplies, and carrying ore to smelters. Mules or burros were a hybrid animal, a result of breeding a male donkey with a female horse. They were sure-footed, capable of carrying and pulling more weight than horses, didn't shirk their duites, and were less prone to bolt if faced by danger. Mules were advantageous for mining work, they were as at home working deep inside a mine, or on steep hills and mountainsides.
