Description

The Senator Highway and Mine, and surrounding community, was first active in the late 1800's. The old pioneer route highway, in the Bradshaw Mountains of Yavapai County of Arizona, had been well-travelled for years, but was unnamed until S. O. Fredericks named it after his Senator Mine which he located there in 1864. Fredericks took on other investors in the early years, but bought them out later. A rich gold strike was made in May of 1874. He worked the Senator Mine until October of 1877. Phelps Dodge bought the Mine and it was worked on and off as late as the 1930's.
