Images of scenes in around Chicago, Illinois during the 1894 Pullman Strike or the Great Railway Strike.
In 1893, during the severe recession of that year, George Pullman's company, the Pullman Palace Car Company, laid off 2,200 of its 5,500 workers and cut wages of his remaining employees. As a result, many Pullman workers joined the American Railway Union (ARU) led by Eugene V. Debs, who called for a general strike on railroads with Pullman cars running on them. The events in Chicago impacted railroads and railroad traffic in Arizona Territory.
