A picture of the Bagdad Mine, open-pit copper and molybdenum mining complex, circa 1959. It was one of the world’s first commercial-scale concentrate leach processing facilities (2003). The mine operates a solution extraction/electrowinning, or SX/EW, plant. A 77,100 metric ton-per-day concentrator produces copper and molybdenum concentrate, the Mine's SX/EW plant produces approximately 9 million pounds per year of copper cathode from solution generated by low-grade stockpile leaching, and a pressure-leach plant processes molybdenum concentrate. The town of Bagdad is an unincorporated community, it is one of two company towns of Freeport-McMoRan (FCX) in Arizona.
