Description

Alexandra Peck Mine, Yavapai County, Arizona Territory. The mine was located approximately ten miles east of present day Mayer, a mile off the main road between Mayer and Crown King. It was started by Edmond Peck. He had been a been a leading scout and mountain guide at Fort Whipple, Arizona. Alexandra was named after the first lady to visit the town. Her name was Mrs. T.M. Alexander. Mr. T. M. Alexander laid out the town site for the Peck Mine and also owned the Black Warrior mine nearby. Alexandra flourished as a mining community from 1873 until it was abandoned around 1896.  The Alexandra, AZ Post Office was discontinued March 25, 1896 and mail was forwarded to Crown King. In its time, the operation reportedly produced over $1,000,000 in silver for its owners. However, the Peck Mine’s downfall was due to continuing disputed smong the four founders. It was rumored that the only ones who made any money on the Peck Mine were the lawyers in Prescott.
