Description

Adams Store, Lynx Creek, Yavapai County, Arizona Territory. The store was attached to the Howells Smelting & Mining Co., a large eastern firm, and John Howell built up the property to reduce ore from claims in the surrounding area. The mining firm had been operating a small dry goods store intending to supply the camp's needs. William Adams, Jr. served as clerk and postmaster. The store proved inadequate to keep up with demands. The Adams store was purchased by Henry Goldwater. An addition was built and the Goldwater's Prescott warehouse supplied it with inventory. The Howell enterprise failed, the property went up for auction, passed through various owners, and closed at the end of the 1880's.
