This photo shows the old wooden road that was used between Yuma, Arizona to California in the early 1900s.

This road was built to go over the sand dunes located west of Yuma - The Algodones Dunes or sand dune field.  Today [2021], this area is considered to be a part of the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation area, which is in the Imperial Valley of California.  This large sand dune filed borders Arizona and the Mexican state of Baja California and is located twenty (20) miles west of Yuma.
