View of the Fourth of July Parade looking south down Cortez Street, Prescott, July 4, 1891.
Colonel Frank Murphy was elected chairman of the committee overseeing the Fourth of July celebrations. At the planning meeting at the Hotel Burke, the group planned for “the most magnificent celebration of the glorious Fourth that was ever witnessed in Prescott.” The procession began with Grand Marshal Dennis Burke and his aides, Edward S. Gill, A. E. Robertson, J. M. Morgan, and Edward M. Blake. The Ninth Infantry Band and troops from Companies A, B, C, F, and H followed this group, and the Prescott Fire Department’s Hook & Ladder Company of hose, dude, tough, and O.K. teams fell behind.
