Description

Prescott & Eastern (P & E) Railroad route through Point of Rocks in the Granite Dells.

March 3, 1897 was the beginning of construction on the railroad going from Prescott to Mayer. It was 26 miles in length. William Abial Drake was the chief engineer who discovered the strip of land through the Dells which was just wide enough for the right of way so it could be constructed at a comparatively small cost and with an easy grade. This strip of land is known as the Peavine Trail. The length through the Dells was two miles.  By July, 1898, 18 miles had been constructed.  On October 15, 1898 the railroad was formally opened for business.

An article in the Journal Miner in 1898 (date not mentioned) states that a station was constructed where the Jerome Road crosses the railroad, known as Yaeger Station named after the canyon.
