Description

The Nine Nelsons were an acrobat and high wire act who performed many circus acts in the late nineteenth (19th) and early twentieth (20th) centuries. On November 8, 1898 they performed in Phoenix with the Great Wallace Shows. Robert Nelson Sr. (b. 1840 - d. 1914) was born in England and at an early age began performing acrobatics in the streets of London. The Nelson family first came to the Americas in 1866 and worked with various circuses in the United States and then in Cuba. Over the years they also performed in Europe, Mexico, and Australia. At several different times they performed with Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus. Robert Jr. died in 1912. However, the family continued performing into the 1930s.
