Mary Elizabeth Post (b. 1841 - d. 1913) was born in Elizabethtown, New York on June 17, 1841. She began teaching there at the age of 15. While visiting relatives in California she learned that teachers were needed in Yuma County. Her first school was at Ehrenberg, she then moved to a larger school in Yuma and stayed there until her death. She retired from teaching in 1913. She passed away on September 15, 1934 at the age of 93. Yuma’s Mary E. Post Elementary School was named after her.
