Description

Stepthens residence, Prescott, Arizona. Nancy (Ball) Stephens on porch.

Nancy (Ball) Stephens (b. 1822 - d. 1908) was born in Ohio. Her mother was Rebecca (Stephens) Ball (birth information unknown) and father Strother Smith Ball, born in Kentucky in 1791.

She was married to Prescott pioneer Varney Stephens (b. 1820 - d. 1904). Varney was one of the earliest pioneers in Prescott, Arizona, arriving in Prescott in 1864 via Texas. In 1870 Varney helped establish the business of Kelly & Stephens with William Needham Kelly, which was first engaged in freighting, then in stationery and they finally added clothing. The business existed until 1900, when it was destroyed in the Prescott Fire of 1900. Stephens died on September 21, 1904. Nancy Stephens died in 1908.
