This postcard shows the road or "Apache Trail" above Roosevelt Dam with Roosevelt Lake in background.
Theodore Roosevelt Lake was formed by the construction of a masonry dam on the Salt River in Central Arizona and northeast of Pheonix. The construction of the dam started in 1903 with the major mason construction happening between 1905 to 1911, making it the oldest artificial reservoir in Arizona. The dam opened in 1911. Approximately ten miles of the original Salt Rriver are now beneath the lake waters, and in the other direction one of its major tributaries, Tonto Creek, is flooded for about eight miles - although the lake level and overall length is quite variable.
