Description

Judge Frank O. Smith (b.1879 - d.1936) was born in Illinois. Both his parents (names unknown) were born in Illinois.

Frank graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in law and was a member of several bar associations.

He married Emma B. Olwin on June 19, 1907 in Chicago, Illinois.

Judge Smith came to Arizona on June 19, 1907, first locating in Tucson where he was an instructor of history and economics at the University of Arizona. Later, he resigned to devote his time to the practice of law. He relocated to Prescott, Arizona where he acquired a large practice and gained wide experience.

In December 1912, he was elected to the Superior Court in Yavapai County, Arizona on the Republican ticket. Judge Smith was reelected in 1914, receiving the largest majority ever given any candidate for any office in Yavapai County.

He resigned in 1917 to serve as secretary of the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) in France to aid American and French soldiers there during the First World War. In the spring of 1919, he returned to his law practice in Prescott.

Later in life he served as President of the Arizona Automobile Association, while residing in Phoenix. In 1929 he was elected President of the Phoenix Chamber of Commerce.

Handwriting on the back of the photograph reads: "Judge F.O. Smith."

Judge Smith died on September 17, 1936.

His burial was in Los Angeles, California at Mountain View Cemetery.
