Description

John C. Herndon residence at 246 South Cortez Street, which burned on April 19, 1893. Herndon rebuilt at the same location; as of today (2021), that house still stands.  The first house was formerly the residence of Justice of the Peace Charles F. Cate in 1876.

Herndon was a prominent Prescott attorney for many years.  He became Yavapai County District Attorney in 1886.  Herndon died on April 10, 1906, and is buried in the Masonic Cemetery.
