Description

George Newton originally founded Q Ranch in 1882, but after his death, Newton’s wife sold the ranch to Jesse Ellison, who named it the Q Ranch.  Ellison had six daughters and two sons; one of his daughters, Duett, would go on to marry George W. P. Hunt, Arizona’s first State Governor.

Jesse Ellison was a controversial figure during the Pleasant Valley War, and the extent of his involvement remains in dispute.  He sold the Q Ranch to area rancher Pecos McFadden.  Jesse Ellison died in 1934 at the age of 92.
