Description

This photo shows the completed bridge construction, possibly over the Verde River on State Route (SR) 79 (today US 89A).

It was a construction project of the Civil Works Administration (C.W.A.) as part of the New Deal put forth during Franklin D. Roosevelt's first presidential term. The only major highway bridge over the Verde River during this time frame [1934] would have been on SR 79, renamed US 89A in 1941, and it crossed the Verde River at Bridgeport, which today is part of Cottonwood, Arizona.
