In 1955, he was elected to a two-year term on the City Council. He became mayor of Prescott in February 1957, but resigned in October 1957 due to ill health.

Mr. Watson was a past president of the Prescott Kiwanis Club and a member of the Smoki People, serving on that organization’s council. He also was a member of the Prescott Elks Lodge, commander of the Prescott Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of the American Legion.

He married twice, first on September 29, 1923 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Betty Oma (Cash) Tucker (b. 1902 – d. 1968). He was survived by his second wife, Verna Irene (Trenner) Watson, who directed the Yavapai County Health Department, two stepsons and two brothers out of state. He died at the Arizona Elks Hospital in Tucson and is buried at Mountain View Cemetery in Prescott.

In this photo he is shown near San Juan, Puerto Rico.
