Clinton Emanuel Schieffelin (b.1823 - d.1884) was born on February 16, 1823 in New York. He was the son of Jacob Schieffelin, born in 1793 in Pennsylvania, and Elizabeth (Brard) born in 1797 in New York.
Clinton married Jane (Walker). They had nine children. One of his sons, Edward L. Schieffelin, was a miner and the founder of Tombsone, Arizona.
Clinton's surname is misspelled in several documents.
The U.S. Censuses have Clinton and his family living in Pennsylania in 1850, in Oregon in 1860, 1870 and 1880. His occupation was listed as farmer. He was living in Los Angeles, California in 1881 and at the tiime of his death.
Handwriting on photograph reads: "Clinton Schieffelin, father of Edward L. Schieffelin, founder of Tombstone, Arizona".
Clinton died on April 15, 1884 in Los Angeles, California by suicide. He had been suffering mental worry about business transactions and had increasingly severe asthma. He was buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Los Angeles. His gravesite states his name is Clinton Emanuel Del Pela Schieffelin.
