Description

Charles C. Stemmer (b.1883 - d.1969) was born on February 7, 1883 in Prescott, Arizona. He was the son of John Stemmer, born in Wurtenberg, Germany in 1838, and Mary Ann Schlensker, born in Wisconsin in 1855.

Charles married Anna Stevens and they had two daughters. The marriage ended in divorce. Charles married and divorced two more times. In 1937 he married Bessie.

The 1920 U.S. Census in Cottonwood, Arizona lists him and his family. His occupation was "public conveyancer of legal documents". The 1930 U.S. Census in Clarkdale, Arizona lists his occupation as "postmaster" as did the 1940 U.S. Census in Cottonwood. Charles served as Postmaster from 1924-1953.

Charles was registered for the draft during World War I and II.

In 1959, Charles wrote an autobiography focused on his belief in spiritulism titled "A brand from the burning: From the depths of despair to the gates of heaven".

Handwriting on photograph reads: "Charles C. Stemmer, Cottonwood".

He died on May 7, 1969 in Cottonwood and was buried in Cottonwood Cemetery.
