Description

Willie Stewart (b.1883- d.1910) was born in Albany, New York on July 12, 1883. His parents were Frank H. Williams, born in Pennsylania in 1859 and Margaret Frazier Williams, born in Scotland in 1862.

Willie was one of the most well-known and most popular young men in Prescott, Arizona. He was athletic but in his pursuit of winning at foot races, he injured his lungs, which was a problem the rest of his life.

He worked at the Prescott Post Office before taking a position in Washington, D.C. with the Treasury department. While in Washington, he contracted tuberculosis. His health brought him back to Prescott in 1908. He took a job as a bookkeeper.

Willie died very suddenly at home from hemorrhage of the lungs. The town was stunned.

Handwriting on photograph reads: "This is Willie Stewart-well known in Prescott. This must have been taken on the steps of their home on Gurley St. Son of Frank Williams, a public official in Prescott for many years. Willie worked in the Prescott Post Office and later transferred to the Treasury in Washington-died in Prescott."

Willie died on July 30, 1910. He was buried in Mountain View Cemetery in Prescott.
