Description

Farrell "Muldoon" Tiernan (b.1828 - d.1909) was born in Ireland in 1828. His parents were born in Ireland, names and birthdates unknown.

Farrell married Jane Meehan in Cootal, Ireland in 1859. She followed him to the U.S. in 1861.They had one son.

Farrell joined the U.S. Army. He served with Company E, 6th California Infantry Regiment. He and his wife were posted in several forts in the Southwest, many in Arizona: Ft. Mohave, Ft. McDowell, Ft. Lowell, then Nevada, and back to Arizona at Ft. Yuma. While the negotiations were pending with the Russian government for the purchase of Alaska, he and his wife were posted in Valdez, Alaska. His final post was in Ft. Whipple in Prescott, Arizona. Farrell retired from the Army in 1889 and then on continued living in Prescott. He worked as a miner and in ranching.

He is listed on the Yavapai County, Arizona Voting Records from 1880 through 1908.

Handwriting on photograph reads: "Mr. Tiernan, known locally as "Muldoon".

Farrell died in Prescott on February 24, 1909 of cirrhosis of the liver. Hw was buried in Citizens Cemetery, next to his son who had died in 1904.
