Description

William “Will” J. Curry (b. 1863 – d. ?) was born in Canada. By 1886, he was registered to vote in Yavapai County, Arizona Territory and was 22 at the time. In 1888, he again was registered to vote in Yavapai County, Arizona Territory. On April 11, 1888 he married Katie Miles at the home of her parents in Prescott, Arizona Territory (b. 1864 - d. 1940). Will formerly had lived in Prescott.

Katie was born November 25, 1864 in Urbana Township, Champaign County, Ohio. She was the daughter of James H. Miles (b. 1819 – d. 1910) and Johanna McCue (b. 1834 – d. 1903), both of whom were born in Ireland. Katie arrived in Prescott with her parents in 1875.

Will and Katie divorced August 2, 1893 and she retained custody and care of a minor child, Irene Curry (b. Nov. 11, 1889 – d. March 9, 1903). Katie subsequently married Warren Ralph Stone September 18, 1902. In the 1910 census she was shown as living in Prescott. They had one son, Warren Stone. Warren, Katie’s husband, died in Phoenix, Arizona on October 20, 1915. Katie died January 21, 1940 in Prescott and is buried in Citizens Cemetery.

The back of one photograph is stamped: “Will J. Curry, Watches & Jewelry, Phoenix, A.T.” Handwritten below the stamp is that he was the husband of Katie Miles and the brother of George H. Curry, the jeweler in Prescott.

The Arizona 1880 census indicates that Will’s brother, George was living then in Prescott, Arizona. The census shows that George was born in England, was age 22 that year, was single, and that his occupation was watchmaker. He was a popular jeweler and assayer. In 1892, he sold his jewelry business to the firm of jewelers, Cook & Lee, of Flagstaff, Arizona. Mr. Lee took charge of the business in Prescott. In 1901, George relocated to El Paso, Texas.
