Description

James Webster Michael (b. 1857– d. 1896) was born October 11, 1857 in Urbana, Illinois. He was the son of Bennett Franklin (B. F.) Michael (b. 1829 – d. 1923) and Frances “Fannie” Ann Lee (b. 1834 – d. 1905). B. F. was a lieutenant in the U. S. Civil War; his profession was as a constable.

James was registered to vote in Yavapai, Arizona Territory in 1878. In 1880 he resided at Fort Whipple, Yavapai, Arizona Territory. He spent the greater part of his time working as a carpenter and in mining. On February 25, 1879 he was appointed U. S. Postmaster for Skull Valley, Arizona.

He died of consumption at his home in Kingman July 30, 1896. His obituary, carried by the Mohave County Miner, indicated that he had been ailing for nearly a year. He left a wife and three small children. His uncle, J. H. Leo, also provided a short notice of James' death that is in the Sharlot Hall Museum Library & Archives.
