Description

Copper Mountain Mining Company, Agua Fria Mining District, Yavapai County, Arizona Territory, c. 1882.

The Copper Mountain mine, mill and buildings were located at the north end of Copper Mountain at an elevation of 4,501 feet. The mine was one of the oldest copper producers on the mountain. Copper was the main commodity, with secondary commodities of lead, silver, zinc and gold.

The mining company was originally started and owned by Isaac T. Stoddard (b. 1851 - d. 1914) who served as the Secretary of the Arizona Territory from June 21, 1901 until March 18, 1904. Early on, Stoddard had been "one of the most persistent and zealous supporters of the Binghampton and other mines in that district."

After Stoddard’s death, ownership of the mine passed to his son, Celora, who in turn, sold his interests in the mine and properties to a Senator William H. Reynolds of New York. Senator Reynolds had been an original investor and partner with Issac Stoddard for 14 years before Stoddard's death. Upon transfer of the mine and mill, the company name was changed to the Arizona Binghampton Mining Company.
