Printing on the photograph border says: "Catoctin Mining CO., Hassaympa District. 10 Stamp Mill, Amalgamation and Concentration."
The Catoctin Mine was a gold and silver mine located in Yavapai county, Arizona, in the Little Copper Creek District, at an elevation of 5,079 feet. The mine sat near a south-southeast (SSE) flowing tributary to the Hassayampa River, and 0.6 miles upstream from the confluence of the tributary with the larger Hassayampa River.
The mine’s primary commodities were gold and silver, with secondary production of copper and lead. These minerals were obtained from the proliferation of quartz and pyrite gangue material obtained from the mine. Production started in the early 1900’s. The last year of production was 1937.
