The town of Jerome was named for Eugene Jerome, one of two New York principles who lent financial aid to this area's mines early in its' history. Mr. Jerome was the first secretary of the United Verde Copper Company.
The town of Jerome grew up around the successful United Verde Mine, it was situated on the eastern slope of the Black Hills, in Yavapai County, Arizona.
This photo shows some early Jerome Mining Camp businesses, and buildings that began the town of Jerome, Arizona Territory.
The business in the lower right corner is identified as the Thomas Carroll Store, which was a general merchandise and miner's supply store during the very early years of Jerome's history. The sign on the storefront reads: "Thomas Carroll, General Merchandise Store, Miner's Supplies, Hay and Grain Yard."
