Portrait of Henry Davis Ross (b. September 12, 1861 - d. February 9, 1945)

Henry Davis Ross arrived in Arizona in 1885 from Arkansas. He opened a law practice in Flagstaff. During 1889-1890 he served as Yavapai County district attorney; from 1891-1892.  He also served as Coconino County's district attorney; in 1893-1894 and he represented Coconino County in the territorial legislature. He then was appointed registrar of the land office in Prescott, Arizona. After three years, he resigned this position to become district attorney of Yavapai County. He lived in Prescott eighteen (18) years. He was elected associate justice of the first supreme court of Arizona in 1912 and in 1915 became the chief justice. He was serving his sixth term when he died. He married Margaret (Wheeler) Ross of El Paso, Texas in 1890. They had two sons, Henry Davis Jr. and John Wheeler Ross.
